Custody and Support

Sometimes we have co-parenting situations where individuals are not married, but they need a court-ordered parenting plan and they need court orders with regard to support. In those situations, what we file is called a Petition for Custody and Support, used to be called more specifically a paternity action.

If you have a co-parenting situation where the father of the child is on the birth certificate, we don't need to file a traditional paternity action. We file for custody and support. If we have a father who's not on the birth certificate, we're gonna file basically the same action, but we're gonna have one extra count that says we need to establish paternity.

We need to add dad's name to the birth certificate. That's really all that that means. So in a custody and support action, what is going to happen is The court's going to make orders with regard to physical custody, legal custody, and child support. So we're gonna address all of those issues that you need to successfully co-parent in that action. Thank you.
